Since 1998, we’ve graduated more than 1,000 students from Alaska PYLI - the longest running youth leadership training of its kind.

What is Alaska PYLI?

A dynamic 50 hour community leadership training for interested youth developed by the Center for Creative Leadership, including 5 days of skill development and instruction in self & community assessment, diversity, goal setting, team building, project planning, and decision making, plus hands on field exercises.

Participants receive the caliber of leadership training typically available only to Fortune 500 executives and government leaders.

Who is Alaska PYLI for?

A diverse group of 20-30 students ages 13-18 seeking empowerment and leadership development in order to improve themselves, their schools, and to make the community a better place to live.

Alaska youth with a positive attitude, committed to strengthening the community, and a desire to build their own leadership skills.

Why is Alaska PYLI offered?

It begins with change. Alaska PYLI develops skills, competence, and character to be community leaders and points of light in our schools, families, and community.

In support of America’s Promise: The Alliance for Youth, we build strengths and resources in youth, develop important personal assets, create meaningful opportunities, mentor Alaska’s future leaders to lead the communities they serve.

When is Alaska PYLI offered?

Our 5-day youth leadership training is offered in mid-March to coincide with Anchorage School District’s spring break.

Participants engage in leadership training, and then apply their skills in the field through delivery of hands-on service learning projects over 5 months.

Alaska PYLI concludes with an Anchorage Assembly sponsored graduation ceremony to recognize students for service and growth.

Alaska PYLI - a point of light

Friends of Alaska PYLI won the national Daily Point of Light award recognizing individuals and volunteer groups who have made a commitment to help meet the critical needs of their communities. We’ve been recognized by the Alaska State Legislature, Anchorage School District, and multiple national forums as a premier youth leadership program.

Alaska PYLI is part of a national effort to increase youth leadership.

Who supports Alaska PYLI?

Alaska PYLI is a grassroots, community supported youth leadership program. Our program is offered through a collaboration of civic, education, business organizations and in partnership with Alaskan schools, and supported locally by Jack White Real Estate.

Alaska PYLI continues as the longest running youth leadership program of its kind through the support and energy of Alaska PYLI Alumni.
